I’ve went to Sagres Portugal to check the wave-spot Tonel. The forecast was pretty good for Saturday and Sunday.
Here’s the spot overview
Some rocks which you should take care about.
There is a current to the left side of the beach (towards the cape) and it’s better not to end up there. The current is meant to be stronger with low tide.
Saturday about 3m wave, instead of sets, there wasn’t really a break for going out. I fought for hours with the shore brake and have been 3 times out. The wind haven’t been strong at the beach while it was strong enough for 4.7 after the shore brake! (I think it doesn’t come in because of the windward cliff – it was sideon)
Anyway the wave’s have been big but not nice for riding because the broke close-out:
Sunday more waves same conditions: I didn’t even think about going out:
At the morning I wanted to go surfing, but the beach with less high waves was quite crowded and looked a way too stressful (some idiots started to fight a little bit down there – I guess due “someone’s” wave disturbance – I wonder how you can own waves…). I had even a little freestyle with gusty offshore conditions at Martinhal on Sunday afternoon.
Anyway it was a nice trip to get to know the spot, the nice place and these conditions
