Boom and Mast

Montag, 08. März 2010

I bought a new boom due my old doesn’t have any straight line anywhere:

I surf it upside down to rigg it up easier – otherwise the closing claw would be at the bottom when I rigg up the sail.

And I bought a 75% rdm 370 Loft mast: I rigged it up with my 4.2 2008 Ice and it feels much more lighter – I’m looking forward to drive with it!

Funny thing the one mast ideology of north – for the 4.2 it doesn’t make sense at all – it’s a waveline so please look for performance – with the 400 mast it’s far to hard/heavy and it should be designed a little shorter for a 370!!!

VOLCAN: I was motivatged and focused on trying it – For the first time I could allmost land it Friday. Saturday I attempted 4 and No 3 almost clean. For me it’s still tricky with the 79L board – but I’ll keep going :)

During the week one afternoon with some Levante at Cabopino – but there haven’t been much wind…

There and elsewhere again

We made a weekend trip to Galicia. 4 days pretty cold; almost no wind; some snow :)

Day one: while we have been rigging up it was snowing – almost horizontal – till we have been to the water, there wasn’t sufficient wind left – so we couldn’t surf at beautiful Valdovino beach.

We have been to Ferrol (Praia do Xurxo, Praia do Valdovino), Laxe (Praia do Traba), Finisterre (Praia do Rostro) and Santiago de Compostela.

Last day at Traba: sideoff wind for more or less 5.3 and masthigh waves – it was incredible to ride these amazing waves!!!

sideoff was quite strange to ride – it’s so different for me, whilst I was always surfing side-  or sideon-shore.

Valdovino: “snowsurf” (it was snowing a bit while we rigged up)

Finisterre: end of the world

Rostro: I really like it – I guess the waves are really powerful

Xurxo: perfect running waves there!

Uni blows

Right after finishing university, I recognized fresh breeze. A quick view to windfinder malaga meant also about 5 bft.

But in El Palo there have been just some few moments of planing with 6.4. Anyway I really appreciate any day on water with my stuff…

asi fue: since i almost ripped my new board, I’ve got into the pleasure to ride the “old” spice 86. It was quite a hard day at club the playa but since then I really could understand why I had some trouble to start surfing with the new one.

It’s such a difference!

Since I got to ride a real radical wave board, the spice feels like a real freeride board!

(anyway for begining in wave it geared perfect!)

Wipeout

I had taken the hard way out at Cabopino. Nice day with about 3m waves and wind for 4.7:

While I was coming in next to the outer mole I tried to make a backsideturn – off course it washed me, and after a couple of waves, I have been about 20m before the inner mole. Somehow I couldn’t handle the situation (I should have just waterstart and leave in any direction!) and few moments later I and my gear was on the rocks of the mole! I took the sail and tried to pull the board also out of the water, whilst incoming waves blaring it against the rocks!

my broken board – it has several spots where it broke; nose, tail, upside, underwater hull, deck, sides…

Camping fun

nice day at Camping in Almerimar with good wind for 4.7 – It was rough but I could handle the shore :)

After about 3 hours of riding I was wasted – some impressions here:
